Sukkur to Multan was the least enjoyable bit of (good weather) riding we have done up to now as we were escorted from door to door by the local police although at no point did we feel the need for it as the Pakistanis we have met are the most friendly and without any (anti western)demonstrations (yes the bike is UK registered). But it has to be said that the police escorting us were very friendly as well as offered us cold drinks. And there have been occasions where we were pulled off by the local police to have a little conversation and a cold drink! (not always ideal when you are trying to get to your destination asap).
Around 500 BC Multan was under Hindu rule before being invaded by Alexander the Great, who named it (nothing other than) Alexandria.

The Shrine of Jalaluddin Bahari and the mausoleum of Bibi Jawindi are in Uch Sharif(below), located at around 35km south of Multan. It was our first taste of great architecture in Pakistan. The mausoleums were impressive, built in the 15th century, one of them had been partially destroyed by the floods in 1817. /
