Ephesos is only 2km from Selçuk. Ancient Roman port city, capital of Asia Minor and had a population in excess of 250,000 people. Its ruins had been excavated by German archeologists in the last century - not very respecfully at times, however they help the visitor to get a very good idea of the scale and grandeur of Roman construction and master planning. Its importance decline with the changes in the topography; the port was lost over time as result of sedimentation filled the harbour and the coast line receded. Pictures are of the façade of the library, the theatre seating 25,000(10% of inhabitants of the city) and the main promenade from the theatre down to the harbour.
